How it works

From no barcodes to scannable labels in three steps

Choose your products

Select the products or collections that need barcodes. You can also start with a store audit, which finds missing and duplicate barcodes and SKUs.

Generate and save

Pick a format and a source: a unique number, the variant ID or your own pattern. EasyScan writes the result to each variant in Shopify.

Print and scan

Print labels straight away, then scan with a USB or Bluetooth scanner, or with EasyScan's tile in Shopify POS.

Selling on Amazon, Google Shopping or through retailers? Those channels need GTINs: UPC or EAN numbers licensed from GS1. EasyScan does not create GTINs. The barcodes it generates are unique within your store, which is what you need for scanning, picking and stock counts. If you already own GS1 numbers, assign them to your products and EasyScan will print them.

Which format to use

Pick the right barcode type

CODE128 is the best choice for barcodes used only inside your store. It is compact, holds letters and numbers, and every scanner reads it.
EAN-13 and UPC-A are retail formats with a check digit. Use them only when you have GS1-issued numbers.
QR codes can hold a product page link, so customers can scan a shelf label to open the product.
ITF-14 is used for outer cartons and cases.

Frequently asked questions

Does EasyScan save barcodes to my Shopify products?

Yes. Generated barcodes are written to each variant's barcode field (or SKU field, if you choose), so they show in Shopify admin, POS and any app that reads barcodes.

Will it overwrite barcodes I already have?

No, not by default. Overwrite existing is off, so EasyScan only fills variants whose barcode field is empty.

Can I generate UPC or EAN barcodes for Amazon?

EasyScan does not issue GTINs. Marketplace UPC and EAN numbers must be licensed from GS1. If you have them, EasyScan can assign them in bulk and print them on labels.

Can a barcode encode my SKU instead?

Yes. When you print labels, the barcode can encode the variant SKU, the barcode field, a custom metafield or, for QR codes, the product page link.

How much does it cost?
