506 EasyLink

Turn the barcodes you already have into QR codes that work everywhere

EasyLink converts your Shopify product barcodes into GS1 Digital Link QR codes. One code per product that scans at retail checkout, opens your product page on a shopper's phone, and prints on whatever label you use.

Inside one EasyLink code

The resolver. You choose where every scan lands, and can change it later without reprinting.
/
01
The GS1 application identifier that tells a scanner a GTIN follows.

09506000134352
Your GTIN, read straight out of the variant barcode field in Shopify.
A retail scanner reads it
It takes the 01 segment and extracts the GTIN — exactly what it already gets from the barcode on your product today.
A phone camera opens it
It follows the address, and the resolver sends the shopper to your product page or a hosted product passport. No app to install.
Why now

Sunrise 2027 is the deadline your retailers are working to

GS1 Sunrise 2027 is the retail industry's target for point-of-sale systems worldwide to scan 2D barcodes alongside traditional ones by the end of 2027. Retailers are upgrading scanners now, and brands are being asked to put 2D codes on packaging. Your existing 1D barcodes keep working, because Sunrise adds capability rather than replacing anything.

One code, two audiences

A retail scanner reads the 01 segment of the address and extracts the GTIN, exactly as it would from a traditional barcode. A phone camera opens the same address, and the resolver sends the shopper to your product page.

QR or Data Matrix, automatically

EasyLink generates both, and switches to GS1 Data Matrix when a label is too small for a reliably scannable QR code. Both carry the same Digital Link address and both are Sunrise-compatible.

Room for more than a GTIN

A Digital Link can also carry a batch or lot number, a serial number and an expiry date, which matters for traceability, recalls and regulated categories.

How it works

Four steps, starting from barcodes you already have

1

Audit

EasyLink reads every variant barcode in your catalogue and classifies it, so you can see which GTINs are valid and which need fixing.

2

Publish

Valid barcodes become live GS1 Digital Link codes on the 506.link resolver, routing every scan to the destination you choose.

3

Print

Download codes as PNG or SVG, or print label sheets in bulk on Avery sheets, thermal rolls or a custom layout with live titles, SKUs and prices.

4

Measure

Anonymous scan counts arrive in Analytics, broken down by product and by day.

Built into Shopify

You rarely need to open the app

EasyLink puts code status where your team already works, so nobody has to switch context to answer "is this product scannable yet?"

On every product page

An EasyLink status card shows All published, Partially published or Not published, plus a per-variant view of each GTIN and its publication state.

Publish without leaving

The product code window previews the QR and Data Matrix side by side, publishes or re-publishes to 506.link, downloads PNG or SVG, and tests the live customer link exactly as a shopper sees it.

At the counter, in POS

An EasyLink publication card appears on product details in Shopify POS, so retail staff can check code status, valid GTINs and active DPP links on the spot.

Worth being clear about

EasyLink does not sell GTINs

GTINs, the numbers inside your barcodes, are licensed from GS1 by the brand owner. EasyLink does not sell or invent them. It reads the barcodes already sitting in your Shopify variants, tells you which ones are valid, and makes those scannable everywhere. If your products have no barcodes yet, GS1 is your first stop rather than us.
