There are two simple methods to create an exchange order or restock products. Method 1, enter the order number on the Exchange It homepage to look up a specific order. Method 2, open the order details page in the Shopify back-end, select “More actions”, then press “Exchange with Exchange It”.
An uneven exchange is when a customer wishes to change a product for another product of a different value. This could be more expensive, requiring an additional payment from the customer or it could be cheaper, requiring a refund from the store.
It’s super simple to create a refund, when selecting the products for restocking in the original order under this section is a checkbox labelled “Refund the Customer for any of these items”. Select this to open the refund options.
When the correct refund amount had been achieved, head to the bottom of the page and press “Place Exchange Order”. This will send an email to the customer with details of the refund.
If the customer is requesting additional items and further payment is due, the app can create a payment invoice for the exchange order. This will send the customer an email with a link to pay through the store checkout flow.
To create this, select the checkbox labelled “Charge the customer for these items” after selecting the products for the exchange order. This will open the options for creating a charge.
Exchange It works perfectly for a replacement order if an item is defective, or a repeat needs to be sent to a customer free of charge.
Simply open the order and select “Exchange with Exchange It”, then select the item that is defective, mark zero items returned and do not restock. Then select the same item in the exchange order and the customer information will be auto-filled for you.
Finally press “Place Exchange Order” and then you can fulfil the new order using your normal process.
An even exchange is when a customer wishes to return a product and change it for another product of equal value. The most common example is a change in the size or colour of a particular item. E.g. Small T-shirt exchanged for a Medium T-shirt.
In this case, the app can create a new order for the customer with zero value so no further charges or refunds are required.
To uninstall the app, select the apps menu in your Shopify Admin and open Exchange It. Then press the app sub-menu (the 3 dots in the top right) and select “About this app”. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and press “Delete App”.
There will be no code left on your online store by this app.
