How To create a discount for your EasyGift rule

You can create a discount from the EG rule page that matches the rule's conditions. The reward can be discounted with an EG automatic discount, a Shopify automatic discount or a Shopify promo code.

Step 1: Configure the rule

Set the trigger, action, schedule and targeting first. The discount is built from these settings.

Step 2: Choose a discount method

In the Discounts section of the rule page, pick a method and click Create new.

• EG automatic discount (recommended) – applies only to items EG added to the cart, so the saving shows in the cart straight away. It doesn't stop the trigger products from getting other discounts, as long as those discounts are set to combine. To use it, turn on the option that removes added products when the trigger is no longer met.
• Shopify automatic discount – only available for rules that apply to all customers. Targeted rules (magic links, customer tags, order history and so on) need an EG automatic discount or a promo code.
• Shopify promo code – EG applies the code when the rule fires. The saving usually appears only at checkout.

Step 3: Set the discount value

• Auto-add rules: the discount makes the reward free.
• Show a popup rules: make the reward free, take a whole-number percentage off, or take a fixed amount off (for example $5 off). Fixed amounts are only available with an EG automatic discount.

Choose which other discounts this one can combine with. Each of those other discounts also has to be set to combine with this one, or they won't stack. See Combining discounts in Shopify. Click Continue when you're done.

Step 4: Save and test

Save the rule, then test it on your store to confirm it works the way you intended.

Notes

• Subscription products (selling plans): the EG automatic discount works with selling plans. If a popup rule offers subscription products, only the EG automatic discount is available.
• Automatic discount limit: Shopify allows up to 25 active automatic discounts per store. This includes EG automatic discounts, Shopify automatic discounts and those from other apps. If you're at the limit, deactivate one you no longer need or use a promo code instead.
• Large rules: if a rule has more than 100 unique variants in its trigger and reward, or more than 100 trigger collections, the matching discount can't be created. Use a collection, product tag or cart value trigger instead.
• Zero-priced rewards: if every reward is already priced at zero, no discount is needed. If some rewards are free and some are priced, use an EG automatic discount.
• Cart value rules: when you create a discount for a cart value rule, EG creates a hidden collection in your store that holds all your products. It isn't published to your storefront. Don't delete it, because the discount uses it.
• Older rules: if you can't see the create buttons in the Discounts section, recreate the rule and create the discount from the new rule.
